About Shira
Shira Stone received her Bachelors Degree in Economics at Barnard College, Columbia University and her Masters Degree in Sociology at Princeton University. She has worked as a teaching and reseach assistant at Princeton University as well as a training and development consultant. In 2001, Shira was the director of training and development for a small consulting firm in New York City. She was excited about the job and loved working with a team. Then, on September 11, 2001 the Twin Towers were hit and the consulting company Shira worked for went under. Shira could have panicked like so many New Yorkers did at that time. Instead, Shira began to brainstorm about what she loved to do most. She sat down and made a list of all the things that were improtant to her career-wise. She listed that she enjoyed working closely with people, teaching, listening, problem-solving, growing and learning. What kind of a job could she find that could give her all of these things and yet still hold her attention as an intellectual? It was then that Shira began to grow her business which became Stone Tutoring Brooklyn.
For over 20 years Shira has worked with homeschool students, publice school students and private school students. She has experiene with children and adults who are afraid of math and those with learning disabilities. Shira also teaches Statistics in the psychology department at Brooklyn College. Now, a mother herself, her experience and the individual attention she gives her students goes above and beyond what many corporate tutoring companies are able to offer. Many of Shira’s students have gone on to Ivy League schools and her homeschool, public and private school students are always confidently prepared for college entry exams.
Shira currently lives in Brooklyn with her spouse, 10 year old daughter and their two cats.
