“Shira was our children’s math tutor from elementary through high school graduation. She was flexible, caring and kind … And yes, an excellent tutor. Our son and daughter two years apart in age had two very different learning styles. Shira was able to adjust her teaching approach to maximize their unique individual learning potentials. years later, my son, a rising college senior and my daughter who will start Veterinary Medicine this summer, speak of her fondly, appreciating the years (more than a decade) and value of her teaching as do my husband and I.”

Parents say …

Dear Shira,

Thank you for helping Brigid over the last 6-7 years. I know it wasn’t always easy but I think as time went on she really came to rely and trust you. Thank for being her math “rock” and pushing her to do her best.

- Mary, parent of long term student

  • "Shira works so well with my son. He is in fifth grade and has some hesitation when it comes to math. She focuses on individual lesson plans for him and has helped him to achieve the level of success needed to move ahead with confidence.

    – Denise, homeschool Mom

  • "In our home we focus greatly on executive functioning skills, especially since our oldest daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD. Shira has a lot of experience with this and it shows. Her undivided attention and ability to hone in on helping our daughter with task initiation, prioritizing, planning, and emotional control goes far beyond the expectations of a private math teacher. Not only does Shira individualize the lesson, she also comes to each session with a sense of real empathy and understanding. "

    – Ruby and Dan, parents of a high school student, seventh grader, and fourth grader

  • "My twins aren't the easiest to deal with. I was so worried when it came time to prep for the SAT's because I am just not equip to help my children with standardized testing. Shira has been a blessing and has really spent crucial time helping my kids not only be prepared but feel prepared. This, as a parent, puts me at ease and lets me know that my twins are ready to fulfill their dreams."

Students Say …

Shira was my tutor from first grade through graduation from high school. I am currently a candidate to receive my doctoral degree in May 2023.

Shira was an essential part of the foundation of my early education. I have a learning difference, a learning disability that was diagnosed in 1 st or 2 nd grade. This difference hindered my ability to keep up with the volume of work required at the NYC private prep school I attended. It was Shira’s diligence, hard work and commitment to my education that learning plans and tools were established to help me succeed. She taught me how to become an effective learner, making my early academic career a positive experience.

I will always have fond memories of my brother and me being tutored by ‘Miss Shira’ at our kitchen table while our dog stole cookies out of her backpack!

Thank you, Shira!

- Zenobya, long term student

Dear Shira,

Thank you so much for helping me in math. I don’t know where I would be in math without your amazing support. We have been working together for 3 years and even I see a huge change in my math skills! I remember when I first walked into cocoa bar struggling with multiplication, division and fractions. Now I can walk away mastering multiple math topics because of you! So thank you Shira, so much for bringing me this far.

- Sonya, student 4th - 7th grade

There aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am to you. Not only are you the reason I got into High School and college, but you have played a role in shaping who I am as a person today. Thank you for showing me kindness, patience, and sincerity. I know that sometimes I messed up, but you stuck with me through all of it. The end of tutoring marks the end of a chapter in my life. I am excited and scared, but I will take what I have learned from you with me. Thank You.

- Theo, student on and off 4th-12th grade
